“The library is inhabited by spirits that come out of the pages at night.”

 Poem to My AP Book

A window was presented to me,

it introduced the old world, in new means.

A window, where I could see,

the past and present, before me.

At first I could not understand,

that pages that demand,

to be read and understood,

in my own words I only could.

After various moons, the windows closed,

leaving all the secrets to those who read and understood.

Though the window will be open again,

to the new people who will accept it and call it friend.

I say goodbye to the pages of knowledge,

I hope this helps me in college.

 About me

Hi there, my name is Samara. I am 16 years old and I'm currently a sophomore in a Southern Californian high school. I moved here about 3 years ago from Mexico, where I had done my elementary and half of my middle school years over there. I transferred here in 8th grade to a bilingual charter school. I was very nervous because i had spent most of my school years in Mexico and was worried i wouldn't fit in. To my surprise, most of my classmates were Mexicans and welcomed warmly because I was the only "new kid". Toward high school my freshman year, I got to know how the system worked and tried to earn good grades in all my classes. Our geography teacher would always talk about taking AP History next year. In my mind I thought it was going to be an easy class, but it wasn't , at first. What drove me to take the class was the encouragement of my teachers and my family, I thought it would be a great opportunity to challenge my abilities. To be honest I really enjoyed the class, and I didn't just learn about history but life itself. It opened my eyes to new ways of thinking and this will help me for my future.

Purpose

The purpose of this online portfolio is to show my understanding of world history and present the techniques I used in order to understand it throughout the school year.
